BLACK PERFORMANCE AND BLACK CREATIVE PRODUCTION
Course Description
Various forms of Black entertainment emerged in the Jim Crow, segregated South and de facto segregated communities throughout the nation. Where once talented entertainers were forced to showcase their abilities in all-Black venues, the 20th century and beyond witnessed the rise of the Black superstar assuming a prominent role in worldwide entertainment. This course traces the social evolution of Black superstars.
