Course Description
Prerequisite: Open to graduate students and qualified undergraduates (those who have completed a minimum of 96 undergraduate credits with an overall GPA of at least 3.2). Qualified undergraduates must contact the Office of Graduate Studies for the required permission form. This course will use Moby Dick to help examine the culture of the United States and its place in larger global concerns. It will provide a context for the novel, and examine subjects like freedom and slavery, consumption and commodities, religion, and the nature of politics and culture.
