RECOVERING NINETEENTH-CENTURY AMERICAN WOMEN WRITERS

Course Description

Prerequisite: Open to graduate students and qualified undergraduates (those who have completed a minimum of 96 undergraduate credits with an overall GPA of at least 3.2). Qualified undergraduates must contact the Office of Graduate Studies for the required permission form.This seminar will explore the politics and process of textual and historical recovery of writings by American women. We will work with a range of literary and critical texts and materials in order to examine issues of representation, identity, and canonization in the context of 19th century literature in the US. Students will plan, prepare, write, and present a substantive individual research project.
