Course Description

Prerequisite: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution. Open to MAAS graduate students only. AMST 5000 Proseminar and AMST 5001 Research Methods required before enrolling. AMST 5890 is a two-part, 6 credit course. A student must complete all six credits of AMST 5890 if he/she elects to write a MAAS thesis. Special Project Request Form required.Part I: Work with a faculty thesis advisor to identify and define an interdisciplinary thesis topic that contributes to the field of American Studies; research the secondary literature; compile a substantive bibliography of primary and secondary sources, and write a detailed outline for the proposed thesis. Part II: Research the proposed thesis and write it under the direction of a thesis advisor; present final project to the American Studies faculty and students. Both Part I and Part II must be completed.
