Course Description
This course examines the evolution of human relationships with food and its symbolic, economic, and environmental dimensions. Topics include feasting and cooperation, food economics, power and status, and food and identity (gender, ethnicity, religion, and class). We will discuss how foodways have been shaped throughout time to understand the impacts of different subsistence styles on past human cultures.
