Course Description

Permission of Instructor required. This course will involve the student in the entire process of proposing, selecting, creating, and installing, artworks (paintings) commissioned for specific public spaces. Students will meet with selected representatives of designated public spaces, create and present proposals for site specific art works, produce the proposed art works chosen to be appropriate to the site, and install and document the completed project. Students will study the history of commissioned public art works, with emphasis on American Art, including works produced under the W.P.A., New Jersey's Arts Inclusion Program, and the Federal General Services Administration. Field trips will be taken to sites in New Jersey, as well as to art institutions in New York and Philadelphia.
