Course Description
This course offers an in depth look at the chemistry of both the natural and polluted atmosphere. Thermodynamics, kinetics, and equilibria are applied in understanding the sources, sinks, and chemical transformations of atmospheric gases and particles. Topics will include basic meteorology and its role in pollution transport and dispersion, the chemistry of climate change, photochemistry of organics and oxides of nitrogen, organic and inorganic acid formation and deposition, formation and reactions of particles, toxicological effects of fine particles, and spectroscopic, determination of trace pollutants. Offered as an Independent Study.
