Course Description
This course interrogates the productive and reflective roles of television within popular culture. Emphasizing the development of greater media and television literacy through critical thinking/writing, students will analyze television as a medium, an institution, a foundation of cultural knowledge and source of entertainment. The course introduces definitions of popular/mass culture, the role of audience, the influence of globalization, and the mutual influential relationships among media and popular perceptions of race, gender, class, and sexuality.
