THEORETICAL APPROACHES & PERSPECTIVES IN VICTIMOLOGY
Course Description
In this course, students examine the experiences of victims and perpetrators of sexual assault, exploring the nature, extent, and consequences of sexual assault as well as theoretical explanations of why it occurs. Students investigate reactions to victims and perpetrators, including responses of the media, criminal justice system, medical community, and informal sources of social support (family, friends, and intimate partners). This course includes assigned readings of theoretical and empirical articles, along with book chapters, class discussions, and small-group activities/discussions.
