DATA VISUALIZATION

Course Description

An introduction to principles of effective graph design such as choosing a graph format, identifying the audience, assembling the elements of the graph, and using color appropriately. Adhering to ethical data visualization practices and avoiding common data visualization pitfalls are themes of the course. Students will have the opportunity to hone their design skills through evaluating published graphs for accuracy, clarity, and impact; creating graphs of their own from raw data; and deploying an interactive dashboard using a cloud service. Interested students in programs other than DSSA should contact the instructor for permission to register.
