Course Description

This Freshmen Seminar class is for students who would like to have some formal training in literary study in a historical context. We will cover the major genres of poetry, drama, and fiction, from classical antiquity (Oedipus Rex) to the present (stories and poems by contemporary authors). Think of this course as a "greatest hits in Western Literature." Critical thinking, writing, speaking and listening, and information literacy are all components of this course. No formal background in literature is necessary or expected.
