Course Description

This course provides first-year students with an opportunity to read and interpret international short stories. The thematic focal point of the course will be the analysis of strange and uncanny tales. Along with an introduction to theories of short story, students will trace major literary movements and become familiar with the writing styles of important authors in world literature such as Poe, Gogol, Storm, Kafka, Garcia, Marquez, and others. Emphasis on discussion and collaborative learning in small groups.
