Course Title
CULTURAL MEMORY AND THE VIETNAM WAR
Course Description
This course will examine how the Vietnam War has been remembered, represented, and interpreted in the United States. We will be asking questions about the impact that the war and representations of the war in Vietnam have had on U.S. culture in the post-war period, with particular emphasis on the ways in which the war may have affected the meaning of being a man, a woman, a soldier and an American. We will analyze a variety of cultural texts (including fiction, non-fiction, photographs, poetry, memorials, films) in order to understand this topic and explore related themes.
