Subject Code

GAH

Course Number

2232

Course Description

This course will focus on horror as a literary and film genre. We will look at horror fictions that have been translated into film or video- often more than once. We will focus not only on the formal and aesthetic aspects of the two genres but also on the social and cultural milieus in which works in both were produced and received. We will look at Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Bram Stoker's Dracula, as well as more contemporary works by Stephen King and Anne Rice, among others.
