SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS RELIGIONS

Subject Code

GAH

Course Number

Course Description

Few topics can be as divisive and provocative as religion. In this class, both religion and the flow of human society (politics) are viewed through the lens of the Hebrew Bible, specifically through the eyes of the prophets in the Hebrew Bible. Using the textbook Seriously Dangerous Religion, students will evaluate questions like, "Who is God," "Why do evil and suffering mark the world," "What am I to do about evil and suffering," and "Which society should I be helping to build?" The textbook's author will contend that "The Old Testament is far more dangerous than modern critics even suppose. Its dangers are the bold claims it makes upon its readers."
