Course Description

An introduction to sculpture and sculptural practice through an examination of the role of the sacred object in different cultures; from the shrines built for Catholic Saints to the 8,000 Terra Cotta warriors built for the Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huang. Students will become acquainted with the cultural/historical role of sculpture through reading, lectures, and discussions, and reflect that learning through practical, hands-on assignments in the classroom.
