Course Description
Not open to students with credit for GAH 1087/1287. The history and evolution of fashion is studied as a chronicle of the development of Western civilization. The human preoccupation with transforming personal appearance has influenced science, industry, exploration, trade, and conquest. The influence of fashion and its relationship to the development of religion and aesthetics, the shifts in class structure, and the changes in social, psychological, and political awareness are traced from prehistory to the modern world.
