Course Description

In this course, students will explore and reflect upon the role of women in the Greek and Roman worlds. We will consider how women lived, how identity, gender, and sexuality were constructed, and what role cultural and ethnic differences played. We will explore the social and political consequences of gender for the lives of ancient women and determine how power and status worked in the family, in religious and political institutions, and in labor practices.
