Course Title
AFRICAN-AMERICANS AT THE FRONTIER
Course Description
The presence and contribution of Africans in North America in settling this nation's Western frontier will be documented. The activities of soldiers, lawmen and townspeople will be examined and compared to less recent information on Africans in the diaspora. Further, the course will detail the cooperation with, as well as opposition to, native people in both peoples' struggle for freedom. To the degree possible, women's experiences will be a major focus of this effort, given the dearth of information.
