Course Description

This course combines history (Livy and Suetonius), literature (Vergil, Horace, Ovid and some lesser poets), art and architecture (including the extensive building program of Augustus) plus some modern novels set in the period 44 BC (when Augustus was adopted by his great-uncle Julius Caesar in his will) to 14 AD, when Augustus died, leaving the empire, as it happened but not as he originally planned it, to Tiberius.
