Course Description
This course invites students to compose what has been variously defined as "the music of what happened" (Blake Morrison) and "the hum of perpetual noticing" (Cynthia Ozark). As students read, write, and revise essays, they will examine the idea of "truth" in nonfiction, focus on storytelling strategies, and experiment with a variety of nonfiction structures such as the journey essay, the segmented essay and more experimental structures.
