Course Description
Focuses on geological field techniques through explanatory lectures and field projects. Students will learn to use a Brunton compass, make pace-and-compass and tape-and-compass maps, construct geologic maps and cross sections, and learn to analyze geologic data using a variety of manual and automated techniques. Students will carry out several multi-day field projects in igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks from initial field mapping through writing final reports including production of professional quality maps and illustrations. Requires field trips and all-day labs. Offered in even-numbered Falls.
