Course Description
Not open to students with credit for PSYC 2340. This course explores human consciousness from physiological, psychological and philosophical perspectives. We will examine the various states of consciousness produced by hypnosis, biofeedback, psychoactive drugs, meditation, and psychic states. In addition, we will explore varieties of unconsciousness such as represses memories, sleep and dreams, and comas. Evolutionary and religious interpretations will be interwoven with current findings from the biomedical and psychological communities in our discussion of the continuum of consciousness and its implications for human potential.
