Course Description

Science touches our lives every day, in every way. We benefit from new materials for clothing to plastics for our automobiles. We rely on drugs to help cure our headaches and diseases that threaten the lives of individuals. We need to be able to make responsible decisions about energy, about food supplies and stem cell research. A recent survey conducted by the National Science Foundation showed that fewer than half of the Americans surveyed knew that the earth orbits the sun and only about 10% of the American population understood the term "molecule." The central goal of this course will be to provide a foundation in integrated physical science topics for the student and a variety of experiences for the student to draw upon. This course will explore topics normally found in everyday life in an active hands-on approach. During each class session, students will investigate science experiments that would be appropriate for the K-12 classroom and will gain knowledge on how to implement an active science program.
