Course Description

In this course, we will explore key factors that can help us understand the Psychology of Women of Color. Among others, we will focus on womanhood and socialization, sisterhood and social activism, as well as gendered racial identity development and resilience. We will use both primary (original interdisciplinary research) and secondary sources (review chapters, textbooks selections, films, etc.) to explore these topics. The course will provide opportunities for students to learn about critical concepts, apply them to real world issues, and consider the implications of race and gender in navigating the US society. Students will engage in a host of reflective activities to ensure a meaningful and interactive, yet fully educational and transformative learning experience.
