Course Description
The goal of this course is to explore the experiences of the Native Populations of North America post-contact through the lens of genocide. It will address: the definitional issues surrounding genocide, the expansive variety of Native American cultures, tribes, and histories, the impact of contact with Europeans, the impact of Disease, the concepts of cultural genocide, genocidal massacres, and forced displacement, and the state of Native America today. This course will also use this historical topic as lens with which to investigate other indigenous genocidal events.
