Course Description
This course will examine the history of the Rwandan Genocide of 1994, beginning with the pre-colonial period and ending with modern day Rwandan society. Students will learn about the atmosphere of hate that developed in Rwanda after colonization that aided in the onset of genocide, the aftermath of violence, and the justice systems that were put in place, as well as the current state of Rwanda and how the country deals with the memory of genocide. Students will also research the origins of the term "genocide" and the current state of genocide prevention on a global level.
