Course Description
This course familiarize students with the roles which national and other cultures play in the processes of "Europe-building" (a phrase often used to refer to the strengthening of the institutions of the EU and to the expansion of its membership), and in Europeanization (which is a much wider and perhaps more important process connoting the role of European culture in the integration of disparate European communities and societies). Topics will include: nationalism and national identities; the European model of society, the challenges of enlargement, constitutional reform, monetary union, and governance, identity and public opinion, citizenship issues and the challenges of large-scale migration, and ethnic politics and conflict management.
