Course Description
Ancient Greek civilization has been considered as foundational to modern Western civilization. This course will address that idea through an examination of the character and history of ancient Greece and its relationship to its neighbors, from the rise of Minoan civilization through the Byzantine period (ca. 2000 BCE-CE). Featured issues will include monarchy vs. democracy, war vs. peace, citizen vs. slave, men vs. women, Greek vs. barbarian.
