Course Description
Formerly titled Chinese History Since 1840. Not open to those with credit for HIST 2191. This course examines the history of China from its engagement with the West during the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644) through the end of the Qing dynasty in 1912, to the Communist victory in 1949. It will also cover the Cultural Revolution and Tiananmen Square. Major themes include nationalism, revolution, social movements, gender, and foreign relations.
