EAST ASIA: TRADITIONS AND CULTURE
Course Description
Formerly titled Introduction to Early East Asian History: Origins to 1840. Not open to those with credit for HIST 2196. An introduction to the civilizations in China, Japan, and Korea beginning with the formation of East Asian traditions including Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism, and ending in 1800. Besides early Chinese civilization and its influence on Korea and Japan, the course also examines how the two countries modified Chinese customs to develop their own cultures with distinctive artistic and literary traditions, political organizations, and social and economic structures.
