Course Description

This course will cover the history and culture of the Levant from the earliest Canaanite settlements to the Roman occupation of Syria-Palestine. Students will analyze the political, religious, economic and literary developments of the area as a fashioning of self-identity in the face of continuing pressure from larger empires such as the Assyrian-Babylonians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans.
