Course Description

This seminar will focus on slavery in the Atlantic world and the process of emancipation. Topics considered include the African origins of slaves, the Atlantic slave trade, the varying colonial slave systems, the effect of slavery on the period of revolution, slave culture, resistance and revolt, the emergence of abolitionist movements, and the divergent processes of emancipation throughout American societies.
