Course Description

Permission of Instructor Required. HIST 2129 recommended but not required. The advanced seminar in history on identity treats race, class, gender, status, occupation, vocation, profession, education, memory, marginality, migration, and exile. It deals with the general problem of economic and social history and their interactions with politics and policy. It stresses research strategies: hypothesis formation, historiographical searches, the collection and assembling of evidence, the formulation of generalizations, and the assessment of the significance of research.
