Course Description

This course is designed to help students develop an appreciation for and commitment to wellness from a clinical perspective. The course will allow students to take a comprehensive and in-depth look at the eight dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, social,occupational, intellectual, environmental, spiritual, and financial (SAMHSA, 2016 & W.H.O. World Health Organization). The objective of the course is to teach students to apply the eight dimensions of wellness to their own lives and to their work with patients. The course assists students in realizing the direct connection between lifestyle habits in all eight dimensions of wellness and reaching better health outcomes. Students will learn about the theoretical background of wellness, learn how to conduct wellness assessments and learn how to develop wellness plans through textbook readings, individual research, practicing wellness assessments, and through a wellness portfolio on a partner.
