Course Title

ITALY NOW: ITS MUSICAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE

Course Description

This course is designed to explore Italy's musical prominence throughout history through contemporary eyes. Special emphasis will be placed upon composers, style periods, and genres distinctive to the cities of Venice, Florence and Rome. The impact of relationships among movements in visual art, architecture and philosophy, and their impact on Italian music past and present, will be examined as well. Live concerts and visits to critical artistic venues will underscore and illuminate materials studied in this course during the trip to Italy in Summer 2022.
