RENAISSANCE PHILOSOPHY IN ITALY
Course Description
This course will be a study of Italian Renaissance philosophy. We begin with Petrarch's enthusiasm for Greek Antiquity (circa 1341) and end with Giordano Bruno, burnt at the stake (1600). From the awakening of humanistic studies, to the translations of the Greek philosophers, this course will explore the works of Machiavelli, Ficino, Pico della Mirandola, Campanella, Bruno, Giullo Camillo, Castiglione, DaVinci and Michelangelo, all against the backdrop of Italian art, architecture, and history.
