POLITICS OF TRANSITIONAL SOCIETIES
Course Description
This Comparative Politics seminar examines the politics of transitions within states and societies. Why do some authoritarian regimes allow democracy to return and others do not? Why are some democratic regimes more vulnerable to authoritarian reversals than others? These questions, among others, will be explored through country and regional analyses, comparing the actors, institutions, and processes of transitional periods in regions such as Central/Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
