HEALTH DISPARITIES AND HEALTH EQUITY
Course Description
Spring semesters. This course will introduce students to health disparities and equity, at the local, regional, national and global levels. Students will explore trends of morbidity and mortality, and how social, political and economic factors influence disparities among groups. Using historical and contemporary case studies and primary literature, students will critique and evaluate public health policies and programs and learn how to advocate for interventions that will improve health in diverse populations. Students will gather and summarize evidence about a specific health disparity of their choice and develop an intervention proposal to promote health equity.
