Course Description

(Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies) How are women challenging patriarchy, imperialism and cultural hegemony; organizing to reduce sexual harassment/assault, poverty, domestic violence, economic inequities; working to enhance health care and family life; confronting barriers in education, the media, religion, the criminal justice system and politics? We will focus on extraordinary women who are working/have worked in diverse social settings to empower themselves and others. This course explores barriers women face, goals and strategies for social change, and the rewards and challenges of social action.
