Course Description
Required for all Theatre students. A wide-ranging survey course covering the history of drama and dramatic literature, from the Egyptian Memphite Drama through the modern day. Students will study key points of development, as well as significant plays, scripts, and stories from representative periods within relevant socio-cultural contexts. Particular emphasis may vary by semester, with sections of the course focusing on specific historical topics varying from medieval theatre to commedia dell'arte to neoclassicism to Kabuki to minstrel shows to silent films to African diaspora theatre to digital media and more.
