Program Description

Bilingual/Bicultural

This program is designed for certified teachers wishing to add the Bilingual/Bicultural endorsement to their existing certifications. To be eligible for a Bilingual/Bicultural endorsement, students will complete the necessary four graduate courses and take the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and Written Proficiency Test (WPT) in English and another language in order to be eligible for this endorsement. All courses can count towards the MAED degree.

Bilingual/Bicultural Endorsement

The following courses are required for the Bilingual/Bicultural Endorsement:

  • EDUC 5202 Introduction to Linguistics

  • EDUC 5203 Second Language Acquisition

  • EDUC 5205 Methods of Teaching

  • EDUC 5201 Current Issues in ESL/BE 

Students completing the Bilingual/Bicultural program must pass the OPI in English and a second language to qualify for the Bilingual/Bicultural endorsement.
