Program Description
Introduction
The Communication Disorders (CD) Minor is designed for students interested in the study of typical and disordered human communication.
The program emphasizes both the understanding of typical communication processes and the study of various communication disorders.
As part of the School of Health Sciences, the CD Minor provides prerequisite coursework for graduate study in communication sciences and disorders, including study in speech-language pathology and audiology. This also includes an additional course (Guided Clinical Observations) which will provide students with the 25 observation hours required for admission to a graduate program.
Additional coursework must be completed in the following areas: biological science, physical science, social science, and statistics. Students should meet with their preceptor to discuss requirements for specific graduate programs of study. Completion of the recommended course sequence does not guarantee acceptance into a graduate program at Stockton University.
Admission to the Program
The program is open to students in all majors. Students should contact the coordinator of the Communication Disorders Minor program to indicate their interest in pursuing the minor. It also is helpful for students to inform their preceptor of their intention to pursue the minor as the requirements for Communication Disorders can simultaneously fulfill other graduation requirements. With early planning, the requirements for the Communication Disorders minor can be fulfilled within the framework of completing any undergraduate degree at the University. Graduation Requirements

HLTH 2104 Phonetics
HLTH 2106 Speech and Hearing Science
HLTH 2119 Introduction to Communication Disorders
HLTH 3115 Speech and Language Development
HLTH 4103 Guided Clinical Observations
Additional requirements as needed for acceptance into an accredited graduate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech-Language Pathology, or Audiology:
One course in a Biological Science
One course in a Physical Science
One course in a Social Science
One course in Statistics
