WE BELONG: DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION
Course Description
Permission of Instructor. This course is intended to complement a student's classroom, internship, or work experiences. This course will address the topic of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), which will assist students in their understanding of the following:1. key terms and concepts: diversity, equity, and inclusion; implicit and explicit biases; microaggressions2. advantages and disadvantages of embracing one's social identity3. impact of stereotype threats4. power of "the group"5. significance of self-handicapping versus self-advocacy6. how to promote diversity, equity, and inclusionStudents will be exposed to terms, concepts, and practices to assist them in understanding human interactions - including how people live, produce, and resolve conflicts as individuals and as groups - as those interactions relate to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Terms, concepts, and practices will provide students with a basis on how to address issues that jeopardize DEI; and how applied approaches connect to self-strategies that foster advocacy and environments of DEI.
