Preamble & Mission
The Bachelor of Arts in Education and Human Development, housed within the School of Education, is a comprehensive and multidisciplinary program designed to prepare students for meaningful careers serving individuals, families, and communities across the lifespan. Drawing upon the disciplines of education, social work, psychology, sociology, child studies, disability studies, and gerontology, the program integrates theory, research, and applied practice to provide a well-rounded academic foundation.
Students develop critical interdisciplinary skills through coursework and service-learning experiences that emphasize real-world application and engagement with diverse populations across varying ages, backgrounds, and abilities. The curriculum reflects a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and community partnership, ensuring graduates are prepared to meet the evolving needs of today’s society.
The program offers specialized concentrations: including Childhood Studies, Disability Studies, and Gerontology, allowing students to tailor their academic pathway to align with their professional interests and career goals. Graduates leave the program equipped with the knowledge, ethical grounding, and practical competencies necessary for impactful employment in human service fields, as well as a strong academic foundation for advanced study.
Through this degree, students become knowledgeable, compassionate, and culturally responsive professionals dedicated to supporting the well-being and development of individuals and communities.
