A Guide for Internship instructors and Social Work Students
Introduction
This manual presents information about the Stockton University Social Work Program, its organization, objectives, and curriculum. It describes in detail the Junior Practice Sequence, the Senior Seminar in Social Work Practice, the Senior Practicum, and the supervised internship experience taken by all Social Work majors in their final year of undergraduate study.
Since the Social Work Program began in 1972, we have worked closely with the local professional social work community. Agencies and their staff have been integral to our success. The faculty and students value this continuing support and the many reciprocal relationships established.
Internships have always been a vital component of social work education. There are different models of social work education and internship placement, and the expectations can differ significantly across models. This manual has assembled resource materials that describe the Stockton Social Work Program and our view of the specific objectives and expectations involved in placements for the Junior and Senior students. Junior students are first introduced to this manual when practicum coordinator(s) visit their SOWK 3604 Theory and Methods I class in the fall of the junior sequence. They are required to sign off that they reviewed the Practicum Manual and understand they are responsible for adhering to its policies and procedures. Overview and Purpose of this Manual
This manual serves as a reference for students and internship instructors for policies and procedures related to the 400-hour practicum required of BSSW candidates during their senior year. A wider range of issues are addressed in the BSSW Student Handbook to which this manual supplements specific to the practicum portion of BSSW education.

LCSW, MSW (Fordham University), with background in clinical social work; grants, oversight, and implementation of Parent Education programs; DCP&P contracts; and administration of a community based social service agency. She has experience as both a practicum instructor for Stockton and a liaison for Rutgers University.
Hilda R. Rivera Rodriquez, Assistant BSSW Practicum Education Coordinator

LSW, MSW (Rutgers University), with background in children and families, children’s behavioral health and a focus on Spanish-speaking families. She has worked over the years in the BSSW and MSW programs as an assistant coordinator, liaison and adjunct professor.
