Course Description

An overview of global and local histories of folk/fine art/design separations and their postcolonial contexts. Emphasizing the North American indigenous art and histories of folk art, instructor will introduce different approaches to the understanding of tradition and creative design process in object making and decoration.This seminar is connected to the Fall 2024 Stockton Art Gallery program and will include workshops with visiting artist Tyrese Gould Jacinto, readings, case studies, and field trips, as well as individual and group-based creative studio projects.
