Course Description

Prerequisite: Baccalaureate degree from accredited institution.This course begins with a comprehensive review of the history of victimology and the Victim's Rights Movement. Students will then review theoretical approaches to understanding victimization, explore the nature, extent, and trends of various types of victimization, and take an in-depth look at the response to victimization by the criminal justice system and other social services. Throughout the semester, students will consider how various social identities shape responses to criminal victimization.
