INTRODUCTION TO THE MIDDLE EAST

Course Description

This course is intended to be an introduction to the people, culture, geography, and history of the Middle East from prehistory to the present. Particular emphasis will be placed on understanding the development of the Arab-Israeli conflict up to and including the present day. Topics to be discussed include the creation of the modern Middle East, the development of Zionism & Palestinian nationalism, The War of 1948, the Six Day War, the Intifada, the Peace Process, statehood and religion, the influence of global powers, and the events & aftermath of October 7th, 2023.
