Course Description
Prerequisite: Not open to those with credit for LANG 4749. Formerly LANG 4749. Permission of Instructor required. This course covers the last five decades of novel-writing in Latin America. Texts are representative of the literary and cultural trends that have given form to the contemporary Latin-American novel during this time. It includes an examination of the novel as a literary genre, and of the Latin American sense of identity. The authors are well-known in and outside Latin America, such as Asturias, Garcia Marquez (both Nobel laureates), Rulfo, Vargas-Llosa, Rosario Castellanos, and others. This course requites an excellent command of the Spanish language.
